The Conference Secretariat

The Scientific Secretariat of the 12th World Lake Conference, Taal2007, is provided by the National Institute of Ecology.

The NIE is registered as a society under the Society Registration Act, at JAIPUR (Rajasthan), where it maintains its Registered office.

NIE LogoFounded in 1976, the National Institute of Ecology (NIE) is India's premier interdisciplinary professional association in the field of ecology and environmental sciences. It is a Non-political, Non-governmental, and Non-profit making Organization, devoted to “Environmental Conservation through Education, Research and Management”. It endeavours to promote all fields of ecology and environmental science through interactions between researchers from diverse disciplines of Biology, Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Fisheries, Physical and Chemical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Marine Sciences, Public Health, Anthropology and Social Sciences, Statistics and Mathematics, and Environmental Engineering.

The NIE has currently more than 500 members drawn from every State and Union Territory of India as well as several other countries. The membership includes Fellows who are elected by the NIE every year in recognition of their significant contributions to their chosen field of ecology / environmental science.

The NIE is known globally for organizing the INTECOL’s First International Wetlands Conference in New Delhi (1980), now a regular 4-yearly event. It has organized several international conferences, the last one being the International Conference on Ecorestoration (Dehradun, 2003). The NIE works closely with various national and international organizations (such as WWF, Wetlands International, SIL, INTECOL, UNESCO, IWMI) and government departments, and undertakes research and management projects.

It regularly publishes the International Journal of Ecology and Environmental Sciences (ISSN: 0377-015X), and the Bulletin of the National Institute of Ecology (ISSN: 0379-7937), besides occasional Proceedings and other publications.

Individuals from all parts of the World and from all fields of ecology and environment are cordially invited to join the NIE as a member and to contribute research/review papers to its journal.
